Orden cronológico

Hasta diciembre de 2011 se especuló mucho sobre cuál era el orden cronológico de las distintas entregas de la saga y si estas transcurrían de forma sucesiva o si por el contrario se daban en universos paralelos y de forma independiente. En dicho mes y con motivo del 25 aniversario de la saga, Nintendo publicó en japón un libro sobre el arte de Zelda titulado Hyrule historia en el que finalmente se desvelaba el misterio^[1], a partir de The legend of Zelda - Ocarina of time la saga progresa en tres universos paralelos independientes.

A partir de ese momento se generan tres líneas temporales paralelas.
